One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Jaw surgery is more often required for adult orthodontic patients because their jaws are not growing. Adults also may have experienced some breakdown or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth and may require periodontal treatment before, during, and/or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can also limit the amount and direction of tooth movement that is advisable.

As our number of adult patients continues to rise, we have added additional choices to our treatment options, including Invisalign services, so that all of our patients can receive quality care discreetly.

When Does an Adult Need Orthodontic Treatment?

There has never been a better time for adults to consider orthodontic treatment. Recent advancements in technology have allowed us to provide stunning results in a shorter amount of time. At Cameron Orthodontic care in Layton, Utah and West Point we will help you determine if you are a good candidate for adult treatment. While we can effectively move teeth at any age, sometimes periodontal disease or other problems arise that require care prior to administering orthodontics. Here are a few common problems for which many of our adult patients seek treatment.

  • Bite Problems – These include a cross bite, open bite, under bite, and over bite.
  • Overjet – Also referred to as protruding teeth, and usually effects the upper and lower front teeth.
  • Spacing – Many adults have large gaps in between their teeth that they desire to close.
